The King’s Academy is pleased to announce plans for the addition of the DiMino Student Union on the school’s 60-acre campus. This strategic improvement grew from a vision for expansion in the student population and in academic offerings. The addition of a 12,100 sq. ft. two-story Student Union will be made a reality through the generosity of local philanthropists and friends of TKA, Mr. Frank DiMino and Miss Clare O’Keeffe (Executive Trustee of the Esther B. O’Keeffe Charitable Foundation).
The student union will be named in honor of Mr. DiMino and his faithful support of the school. Mr. DiMino’s most recent gift provided significant funding to move forward with the project. His investment in the school over the years has allowed Kings to expand their award-winning DiMino Engineering Program, provided support to their national championship cheerleading team, and increased financial assistance for students. Recently, the school’s Science Center was named in his honor.
An additional significant gift provided by the Esther B. O’Keeffe Charitable Foundation was instrumental in securing the remaining funding necessary for the project to move forward. The student union will become a permanent home to the O’Keeffe Pre-Law Studies program and the Foundation’s generosity will be recognized through the naming of three state-of-the-art instructional rooms including: a mock pre-law trial courtroom, pre-law studies classroom and a collaboration room. The Foundation’s long-time support of Kings is evident through the naming of the Page Family Center for Performing Arts lobby and the establishment of an endowment for the Pre-Law Studies program.
Preparation for college is one of the primary objectives at The King’s Academy, and its intellectual rigor and variety of opportunities provided for students lays a foundation for future academic success. The DiMino Student Union will provide the much-needed space for program and enrollment growth. In addition to providing a center for O’Keeffe’s Pre-Law Studies, the student union will also include expanded library space, indoor and outdoor dining facilities, two collaboration rooms, three classrooms with two being dedicated to the Pre-Medical Program of Distinction in honor of TKA parent Dr. Vincent Apicella. The classrooms will include instructional space and a skills lab. The project is set to break ground in May of 2021.
Mr. Randal Martin, President of The King’s Academy shared, “The DiMino Student Union will quickly become a central hub of our campus, with students of all ages visiting our expanded library and cafe’ daily. Additionally, state-of-the-art classrooms for the O’Keeffe Pre-Law and Pre-Medicine Programs of Distinction will fuel our school’s constant drive for academic success. I am very grateful for Mr. DiMino, Miss O’Keeffe, and Dr. Apicella’s combined vision to benefit all of our students in one magnificent project. Through their partnership, these generous donors are beautifully demonstrating our school theme this year, ‘we are better together.’”
TKA’s Vice-President and Headmaster, Dr. Douglas Raines shared, “The entire Kings community is grateful for the generosity of Mr. DiMino and Miss O’Keeffe as we eagerly expand into an amazing new building. The DiMino Student Union will give students the opportunity to excel as they work in engaging spaces and through unique programs of distinction. We are certain the next generation of leaders will be inspired and shaped during their time in this beautiful facility.”
