Academics

The King's Academy elementary teachers educate students in the systematic, explicit teaching of the foundational components of reading in all grade levels. Kindergarten through second grade use a variety of teacher-led activities, hands-on learning centers, cooperative learning, and reading groups to facilitate phonics and reading comprehension instruction. The reading curriculum builds on strong phonemic awareness and encourages students to develop a love of reading. The reading curriculum includes decodable readers, read-alouds of rich literature, small group activities, and novels. Each component establishes a stronger reading comprehension. TKA incorporates computer programs such as IXL for appropriate grade levels. Our writing curriculum is comprehensive and begins in Kindergarten. Students are taught vocabulary, grammar, structured and creative writing, and public speaking. 

Math instruction begins in Kindergarten with the integration of activities that involve sorting, patterning, and graphing as well as building number skills concepts. The King's Academy Elementary School uses a variety of teaching techniques, including hands-on instruction and rapid recall of facts, to ensure a strong understanding of math. The King's Academy utilizes a multi-layered approach in our mathematics curriculum, including auditory, visual, and kinesthetic methods. A wide array of manipulatives allow teachers to incorporate a hands-on approach to most lessons. Strong mathematical foundation principles require students to think critically as they use those principles for problem-solving and real-world application features. Our chosen curriculum incorporates an enhanced problem-solving focus that requires students to utilize multiple concepts and procedures to find the correct answer.  

Bible is part of our core curriculum. During this time, teachers use Bible stories, verse memorization, and positive character traits to develop a Biblical worldview and heart for Christ. Teachers lead students to understand how to use what they have learned to make choices that honor God. Students are taught the foundations of the faith through DeepRoots, an apologetics-based curriculum. This curriculum builds out the Biblical timeline, covering events from the Old and New Testament where it trains students on matters of the heart. Students attend chapel weekly.   

TKA students learn how their world works through experiential learning. The King's Academy uses a Christian curriculum for science. This curriculum has many hands-on exploratory activities, including experiments, completed in the classroom as lab activities. 

Social Studies includes curriculum resources and thematic units. Lessons provide students with opportunities to learn how our country was founded, its history throughout the years, and the geography of our nation.
