Junior Kindergarten (Early Childhood Center PK 4 in 2024-2025)
Junior Kindergarten (Early Childhood Center PK 4 in 2024-2025) is a comprehensive developmentally appropriate program taught within a Biblical worldview to educate children spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Instruction and learning centers teach application analysis, synthesis and evaluation of letters, sounds, and number concepts. Our program prepares your child for successful reading through brain developing activities. The classroom is a fun and engaging place where learning involves small and large group instruction, discovery, and play. Children are encouraged to listen carefully and follow multi-step directions. Children are given the tools to be successful at school. Our goal is to teach your child and to share the love of Jesus Christ. Our desire is to encourage your child to develop a love for learning and to impart confidence in your child as they begin their learning journey.
PK 5: Kindergarten Prep (launching in 2024-2025)
PK 5: Kindergarten Prep (launching in 2024-2025) is a developmental program designed for five-year-old students who would benefit from an additional school year prior to beginning Kindergarten. With a focus on developing basic math skills and a strong pre-literacy foundation in phonics, students will be adequately prepared for the rigor and pace of the kindergarten program. The teacher and teacher’s assistant will foster the development of fine and gross motor skills and social-emotional skills. The learning environment is carefully crafted to cultivate creativity and engagement. PK 5 students will participate in elective classes (STEM, Art, Music, PE, Spanish, Library) and be able to utilize the school transportation system and Sage Dining Services. The kindergarten prep class will be located in the elementary school.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is an enriching time of academic and social-emotional development. The kindergarten program focuses on phonics and phonemic awareness to build a strong foundation for future reading. The math program provides opportunities for hands-on practice to encourage active learning and student engagement. Themed science and social studies units incorporate a wide variety of topics such as space, community helpers, apples, pumpkins, transportation, the rainforest, oceans, and more. The students look forward to participating in annual kindergarten traditions including Apple Day, Pumpkin Day, and Community Helper Day. Students learn letter formations and engage in daily craft activities designed to foster the development of fine motor skills. A new Biblical truth and memory verse is taught each week establishing a firm foundation in the faith. Students leave kindergarten knowing that they are perfectly and uniquely created by a loving God who will be with them wherever their journey takes them.
First Grade
First grade is a wonderful year at TKA! Students are immersed in a loving and respectful environment where they gain more independence and develop responsibility. Teachers partner with parents to lead each child throughout the year. The students are valued and are lovingly coached to follow directions, show respectful behavior to others, follow God, and honor Him with their attitudes and actions. The students build on the foundation set for them in kindergarten as they develop phonological awareness, use phonics skills to decode words, develop fluency, and increase comprehension skills. Students are exposed to a math curriculum that is set up to spiral and review concepts consistently. A firm foundation is built as students apply various strategies to learn addition and subtraction facts and practice solving problems, counting money, reading/interpreting graphs, using geometry, and developing various measurement skills. Students also learn to communicate clearly as they learn basic parts of speech and practice using grammar rules to write simple stories and friendly letters. Teachers immerse students with Biblical truth, and provide meaningful discussions on each topic, and create engaging themed experiences to help the students make connections between the various subjects they are expected to learn.
Second Grade
Second grade provides a well-rounded education experience. Daily Bible lessons help develop spiritual character and provide a strong foundation for a student’s faith. In second grade, reading instruction makes the transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” The depth and rigor of our reading curriculum develops strong reading comprehension skills. Students are exposed to a variety of genres and expand their vocabulary. Whole group instruction, small group reading instruction, and literacy centers provide opportunities for all students to have success. Second grade enriches the reading curriculum with classic children's literature and fun and memorable special book celebration days, as students dress up as characters from the books. Through engaging math instruction, the use of math manipulatives for hands-on learning, real-life problem solving, and math computation, our students bolster confidence in their math capabilities and fine-tune the basics. Students also receive instruction in spelling, writing, grammar, science, and social studies. All second graders attend daily specials, which include Music, Art, Library, Computer, PE, Spanish, and STEM, in addition to weekly chapels and daily recess. Educational field trips are designed to enhance and reinforce our academic curriculum. Our main goal is for each second grader to grow in their knowledge of God and His creation, to be responsible and respectful, and to foster a love for learning and knowledge that will carry with them their entire lives.
Third Grade
Third grade students embark on their final year in lower elementary where we prioritize the development of crucial skills such as organization, study techniques, independence, and responsibility. To enhance their learning experience, we engage the students in various activities like Market Day, Charlotte's Web Day, and a Multiplication Carnival. Our dedicated team consists of four teachers and a rotating aid, ensuring personalized attention for each student. Throughout the year, we progressively increase academic rigor to foster independence and cultivate a love for learning. Our curriculum includes a range of special classes such as Technology, PE, Spanish, Art, Library, STEM, and Music. Mathematics adopts a hands-on approach with a strong emphasis on multiplication. Our primary reading objective is to cultivate a deep appreciation for reading while simultaneously honing essential comprehension skills. Our instructional approach employs both small group and whole group teaching strategies to effectively cater to the diverse needs of our students. Through targeted small group instruction, we provide personalized guidance and support, allowing for individualized attention and focused skill development. Whole group instruction fosters a collaborative learning environment where students engage in shared discussions, collaborative activities, and interactive lessons that promote peer interaction and collective knowledge building. Most importantly, we study the Old Testament, seeking to instill in our students a deep understanding and appreciation for its timeless wisdom. Through thoughtful exploration and analysis, we foster a profound connection between scripture and the realities of our students' daily lives. Our goal is to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment that facilitates the holistic development of our third-grade learners.
Fourth Grade
Fourth Grade is a pivotal year filled with many new experiences and opportunities for growth as students transition between classrooms for different subject areas. This movement provides the opportunity to talk, socialize, move, and reset before starting the next class. As such, there are four dedicated classroom teachers and one instructional assistant who aid their students in learning vital skills in reading, math, writing/grammar, FL history, science, and Bible. The fourth-grade student becomes part of TKA’s Junior Conservatory where they may choose from band, choir, strings, dance, and art. Social, emotional, and academic challenges provide opportunities for perseverance and character development. Off-campus learning experiences include trips to the PBC Historic Courthouse, Flagler Museum, Jupiter Lighthouse, and Little Red Schoolhouse. The highlight of the year is the students’ first overnight trip to St Augustine. Our hope is that each fourth-grade student completes the first year of upper elementary with the ability to be an independent thinker, a love for Jesus and Biblical truths, greater organizational skills and responsibility for their schoolwork, and a desire to be a lifelong learner.
Fifth Grade
Fifth Grade is the final year of elementary school at The King’s Academy. Students continue to develop a deeper understanding of mathematics, writing, grammar, reading, science, and social studies taught through a Biblical worldview. In math, students build upon their computational, conceptual, and problem-solving skills through the math instructional process and see the real-world application of the content they are learning. In reading, we captivate each child's passion for reading by integrating enjoyable incentives into our curriculum and novels. In social studies, students travel across the United States to learn about the history of our great nation! Science class, students engage in hands-on activities to learn about scientific concepts. Writing and grammar focuses on developing a strong foundation of writing mechanics, incorporating grammar skills into their writing every step of the way. Students are taught to use and apply structure models to organize their ideas. In Bible class, students are taught the SOAP (Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer) Bible Study Method to move beyond memorization of scripture to life application by taking time to observe, apply, and pray through their weekly memory verse. Fifth graders visit Washington, D.C. to continue learning more about our government and country. Students are also able to participate in Conservatory where they can study Art, Band, Strings, Choir, and Dance. Fifth-grade students participate in multiple elective classes including STEM, Computer, Library, PREP, Spanish, and PE, and may enroll in many after-school clubs. The goal of 5th grade is to ensure students are fully prepared, academically and spiritually, for their upcoming years in middle school years.
Elementary Technology
The Elementary Technology program is designed for students from first to fifth grade to develop basic skills in computer science through engaging lessons and age-appropriate content. With a focus on developing basic computer skills, students are exposed to concepts such as problem-solving, algorithms, security, privacy, copyright, computer programming basics and keyboarding skills. Upon completion of elementary school, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role and function of computers and how to communicate effectively and safely with technology.
STEM
The Engineering Design Process starts with a problem that needs to be solved in an innovative way. This problem is presented in story form and students learn the science information that coincides with the problem. Students then work together to solve the problem in various ways. For example, upper elementary students use VEX kits to create simple machines, windmills, and ChassisBots (robot cars). Lower elementary students use craft supplies to design and create devices to communicate with light and sound, painting tools with three functions, and devices that spread seeds just to name a few activities.
Mrs. Bekah DeProspero, a certified Project Lead the Way Master Teacher who teaches the Elementary STEM Lab, wants to open the students' eyes and encourage their curiosity as they work together to design creative solutions. By engaging the students now, we can build their confidence, grow their interest, and set them on a path towards strong accomplishments in middle school, high school, and beyond. It is important to note that as much as 65 percent of scientists and graduate students developed their interest in science during elementary school. Project Lead the Way’s Launch program is for K-5th grade.
Elementary Music
Elementary Music (grades JK- third grade) encourages active music making with a focus on exploring the concept of steady beat in kindergarten and first grade through learning melody and rhythm in second and third grades. Students have the opportunity to perform in various programs throughout the year including the Veteran’s Day/Grandparent’s Day program, and the Christmas programs. Located in the elementary music room, the classroom encourages students to create and play rhythm patterns, sing, move, and play those rhythms on the instruments. The students learn to be good listeners as an audience while they listen to their peers perform on the music room stage. The students will be able to describe and demonstrate good performance and concert techniques. In third grade, students learn to play the recorders through improvising, creating, and playing rhythm patterns, melodies. They will learn to not only sing the notes but read the notes on the staff. Elementary music is a class that establishes the foundation of music learning through worship songs, familiar songs, and choral pieces. When the students are involved in active music making by singing, playing instruments, and moving to the music, they will learn critical listening skills, and have the skills as future musicians who love creating and performing music. Music class will give students unique opportunities to express themselves creatively and to build confidence and excitement through making music.
Elementary Visual Arts
The Elementary Visual Arts Program is designed to help students gain confidence in creativity, critical thinking and self-expression. Students learn in an environment where they have hands-on opportunities to use many different types of mediums and grasp new skills and techniques. The art studio is a place where they are invited to think outside of the box and learn the creative process. Students also begin to understand how to use art as an expression of emotion and creativity as a direct result of our being created in the image of God.
Elementary Spanish
Bienvenido! The King’s Academy provides weekly Spanish instruction for students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Students are educated in the different cultures of Spanish-speaking countries around the world through awe-inspiring virtual field trips. Students will also study Spanish grammar and proper pronunciation through exhilarating games and activities. TKA’s Spanish program infuses all subject areas including art, science, math, social studies, physical education, music, dancing and technology. Our Spanish program will encourage and inspire your child to learn more about Spanish language and cultures in a Christian environment.
Elementary PE
Elementary PE is a program for our JK through 5th grade students where students will learn basic locomotor movements and skills necessary to participate in various types of physical activities. We provide a fun and safe environment where students can play, compete, and participate in all activities. Students will develop a Christ like attitude of good sportsmanship and fair play. Students will gain confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthy physical activities.
Library
Students from JK-5th grade come to the library once a week for a fun, interactive specials lesson with engagement. Students are introduced to new literature and authors helping broaden their reading experiences and interests. Students are also able to learn and explore with manipulatives such as Legos, connecting blocks, magna-tiles, and puzzles of different sorts, building and using their problem-solving skills. We also incorporate technology with the use of iPads to read eBooks, create music through fun apps, and write our own stories. In addition to these activities, students check out books from our library during their weekly visit.
