A Place Where Students Grow In Knowledge & Spirit

ACADEMICS

The first step towards academic excellence is a solid educational experience.  The King’s Academy offers elementary students a strong academic foundation that prepares them for our college-preparatory high school. They are challenged to reach their God-given potential, to strive for excellence in all they do through the integration of faith and learning. Students excel academically through a traditional curriculum integrated with current teaching techniques such as cooperative learning experiences, technology, and multi-modality activities. TKA students participate in educational field trips, weaving life experiences with learning.  Within these strategies, our Christian teachers promote a positive learning environment. This commitment to quality can be seen on test scores as the average student at The King’s Academy scores above grade level on nationally recognized standardized tests.

K 4 - students are introduced to phonics in preparation for reading, math, Bible, social studies, science, and skill centers.

K 5 & 6 - students participate in Bible, math, reading, penmanship, phonics, social studies, science, and skill centers.

First Grade-Fourth Grade - students participate in Bible, math, science, social studies, and language arts which include reading, language, writing, spelling, and penmanship.

Fifth Grade-Sixth Grade - students participate in a block schedule, changing classes with their homeroom class. Subjects studied include Bible, math, science, social studies, and language arts which include grammar, literature, and composition.

SPIRITUAL

At The King’s Academy, it is commonplace to see students sharing the love of Christ with other students, committed parents gathering in prayer, and teachers demonstrating the spiritual truths found in the Word of God. In the elementary school, Bible lessons are taught each day, and chapel services are held weekly.  Elementary chapels are separated into primary and intermediate grades.  The younger students are introduced to Biblical principles through songs, puppets, videos, and teachings. Older students enjoy a variety of guest speakers and musicians. The purpose of our Bible curriculum is to present the need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to foster spiritual and moral development in our students.

MUSIC

The music department offers vocal music and music appreciation to each elementary class.  Vocal music prepares students for the musical programs scheduled throughout the year.  In music appreciation classes, students focus on many facets of music, from reading sheet music to recognizing styles of music, identifying instruments and famous composers. In addition to these weekly courses, children in the upper elementary may audition for our elementary choir, “King’s Kids.” Band classes are also offered to fifth and sixth grade students.  Beginning band (fifth grade) introduces students to the fundamentals of instrumental music. Intermediate band (sixth grade) continues to build skills. Both bands perform during seasonal events.

ART

The elementary art program introduces students to 36 different artists over the course of a five year period. The curriculum covers the life and techniques of each artist and students create a project based upon the artist’s work. The goal of the art program is to assist students as they discover their artistic abilities. The students conclude the art program each year by hosting an art festival.

LIBRARY

Students visit the library in order to develop a life-long appreciation for reading. Elementary children are introduced to various types of literature. In the younger grades, children hear stories that provide lessons in character and Christianity.  Older students are instructed how to locate books, both for enjoyment and research.  Computers are available for internet research.

TECHNOLOGY

State of the art computers are located in the elementary computer lab. Students have the opportunity to work on computer programs for academic enrichment in the library, and in the elementary computer lab. Children are taught a wide range of computer skills including keyboarding, word processing, graphics, and internet research.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Spanish is offered to our elementary students. Believing God created languages, we seek to provide further understanding and appreciation of this language and to encourage communication with those of different cultural backgrounds. It is our hope that the development of a foreign language will contribute to our students’ usefulness in God’s service. Students in grade six are introduced to Latin basics.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Students in K 4 – 6 participate in “Kidsercize” which provides exercise for coordination and gross motor skills. First through sixth grade students participate in physical education classes. The goal is of the physical education program is to help students develop gross motor skills, eye-hand coordination, team cooperation and proper sportsmanship. Students also take part in a variety of skill building activities and the Presidential Physical Fitness Program.

BRAIN GYM

Brain Gym is a movement based program which is designed to activate different cognitive functions. Through the twenty-three Brain Gym movements, students are able to unlock the learning blocks to reading, and release stress which inhibits learning.

SCIENCE LAB

Elementary students experience hands on activities and experiments that compliment the topics discussed in the science curriculum of their individual grade level classes. The science lab provides students with the opportunity to explore the complexity and detail of God’s creation.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The afterschool extra curricular activities provide students with opportunities to experience athletics and the arts. Tennis, golf, intramurals, gymnastics, cheerleading, dance; tap, ballet, jazz, violin, science club, and chess are offered throughout the school year.

AFTERCARE PROGRAM

The King’s Academy After School Care Program is an optional addition to the regular TKA school day. This quality program is an integral part of a complete education for many families. We have thoughtfully designed the After Care Program to complement the philosophy of the school and to support our faith values, because of TKA’s commitment to providing the highest quality Christian education possible to its students.
