Community Service Project Form
Community Service Form for on-going projects
The generous families of The King’s Academy donated 1,452 toys for Urban Youth Impact’s (UYI) annual toy drive. The toys that were collected allowed parents in our community, who cannot purchase Christmas gifts for their children, the opportunity to pick out something special for their child to unwrap on Christmas morning. But the giving did not stop at the toy collection bins. While parents gathered to wait in line overnight, students helped load over 7,500 toys onto TKA buses to be delivered to the Roosevelt Full Service Center. It took three buses to transport all of the donations. The students then unpacked and set up all of the donated toys, food, groceries and special activities in time for the Christmas Store to open the following day.
The Christmas Store opened early Saturday, December 17 with the help of 135 TKA students. The student volunteers greeted and served lunch to the families, helped parents choose gifts, entertained children and helped load gifts and donated clothing and food into cars. The Key Club painted children’s faces while the Tri-M National Honor Society awarded candy to the winners of musical chairs. Older children and teens played basketball with the boys varsity basketball team.
From collecting and transporting toys, setting up, serving the families and even staying late to clean up, TKA was part of a massive effort that raised enough toys to meet UYI’s goal. In the end, over 2,000 children from more than 600 families were given the gift of hope this Christmas.
